Video lesson items

Use an uploaded video or HTTPS YouTube link in a Course or Reference, and recover playback problems.

A Video item embeds an uploaded video or YouTube video in a Course lesson or Reference chapter. You need editing access and workspace authoring; uploaded files also need available storage.

Add a video

  1. Open the project for editing from Library and select its lesson or chapter.
  2. Under Add content, select Video.
  3. Set Video source to Upload video file or YouTube link.
  4. Choose a supported Video file, or enter a valid YouTube URL.
  5. Add a Caption and optional Alt text.
  6. Drag the item's grip to the intended position, wait for Saved, then use Preview to check playback.

A caption appears below either kind of video. For a YouTube embed, the caption, or Alt text when there is no caption, also names the player for assistive technology. Uploaded video controls do not use the Alt text field as a visible description.

Captions allow up to 5,000 characters and Alt text up to 1,000.

Use an uploaded file

Upload MP4, MOV, or WebM, up to 50 MB per file. Wait for Uploading and Processing to finish, then check the ready video in Preview. Saved project changes and completed media processing are separate statuses.

Choose another file to replace it. Clear video detaches the file while leaving the item. Attach a source or remove the item before publishing.

If processing fails, read the reason and choose a replacement. Keep the editor open until the transfer attaches its result; closing it early does not guarantee the upload can resume.

Enter a complete HTTPS link to an individual video. Supported forms include YouTube watch, embed, and Shorts links, and youtu.be short links. A channel or playlist-only link is not a video source.

The video remains hosted by YouTube. Learners need network and provider access, and the video must allow them to view it. CareMap does not copy it into the Course.

An invalid YouTube URL can block saving, not just publication. Correct it and use Retry save when needed.

Changing Video source clears the previous selection. Keep any URL you need before switching; returning from YouTube to upload requires choosing a file.

Recover playback

For unavailable uploaded media in Learn, check the connection and select Retry media when offered. Ask the author to review persistent failures.

A YouTube player provides Retry media and Open on YouTube. Use these if it loads slowly, stays blank, or shows a provider error. A loaded player frame does not guarantee the video itself is playable.

Watching a video is not required by CareMap before completing a lesson and does not create a score. Add a Quiz for a knowledge check.
