Visual Effects
Choose how CareMap presents Positive, Negative, and Neutral visual feedback.
Visual Effects add optional feedback when an authored Guide choice or another supported CareMap action requests it. Effects are decorative and non-blocking. They never change an answer, route, Report, or workflow state, and they do not replace the text or control that communicates what happened.
Effect preferences belong to your signed-in account and follow it across supported web, desktop, and mobile clients.
Understand categories and treatments
An author or supported CareMap action requests an intent category:
- Positive;
- Negative;
- Neutral; or
- None for no Effect.
The request does not prescribe an animation. Your account maps each category to the treatment you prefer, so two people can see different feedback for the same authored choice. Not every action requests an Effect.
No visual treatment appears when the authored category is None, your category mapping is None, or Enable Effects is off.
Choose your Effects
- Open Settings > Appearance > Effects.
- Use Enable Effects to turn every Effect on or off without losing your category selections.
- Choose the treatment for Positive, Negative, and Neutral.
- Select Preview beside a category to see its currently resolved treatment. Preview is unavailable while Effects are disabled or the category maps to None.
- Choose Small, Medium, or Large under Effect Size.
- Turn on Allow intense effects only if you want Screen Shake, Screen Flash, and Glitch to be selectable.
Allow intense effects is off by default. Without it, an intense request uses the low-motion Accent Pulse instead.
Understand size and Reduced Motion
Effect Size changes treatments anchored near the triggering control, including bursts, ripples, waves, glows, and sweeps. Small is 25% smaller than Medium; Large is twice the Medium size.
Full-screen treatments do not resize. This includes Screen Shake, Screen Flash, Glitch, and Edge Pulse.
When CareMap or the device requests Reduced Motion, motion-heavy and intense treatments use the short Accent Pulse fallback. This safety rule applies even when Allow intense effects is on. Your saved treatment choices remain in place for times when Reduced Motion is not active.
Effects for Guide choices
Guide authors can assign an intent category to supported final Tap choice options. The player still controls the visual treatment through their own account preferences. See Tap choice answers for the authoring workflow.
If an Effect is missing, confirm that the action supports Effects, the authored category is not None, Enable Effects is on, and the category mapping is not None. Reduced Motion may replace the expected treatment with Accent Pulse.
