Workspaces and Access

Shared Libraries

Open Library content that another person has shared with you without entering their workspace.

A shared Library is a Library source that groups folders another person has made available to you. You can use that content from your personal workspace without entering the other person's workspace or seeing the rest of it.

Open a shared Library

  1. Make sure your Personal workspace is active.
  2. Open Library.
  3. At the top of the Library path, select My Library or the name of the current Library source.
  4. Under Library sources, select the person whose shared content you want to open.
  5. Browse the folders and content available in that source. Select My Library from the same menu to return to your own content.

CareMap groups all top-level folders shared by the same person into one source. If people have the same display name, the menu adds an identifier so you can choose the correct source.

Understand the sharing boundary

A shared Library shows only the folders you can access and their visible contents. You cannot browse upward into hidden folders or the owner's personal workspace. Shared sources also do not appear as separate choices in the main workspace switcher.

The Library path and search stay within the selected source. Changing sources does not move, copy, or change ownership of any content.

Your available actions follow the permission on each shared folder and your current CareMap access. Read only access lets you browse permitted content but does not provide editing controls. Read/write access can allow editing inside the granted folders, but it does not make you the owner or let you manage the owner's other content.

If a shared source is missing

  • Confirm that your Personal workspace is active. Organization workspaces show only their own Library and do not show the Library-source menu.
  • If you received a pending folder invitation, open Library and accept it before looking for the shared source.
  • Ask the sharing person to confirm that you still have access to the intended folder and the expected permission level.

If access is removed, the source and its folders disappear from your Library. CareMap cannot restore revoked access; the owner must share the folder again.
