Note subject dates and timezones

Set the time a Note describes and understand device-local editing, timezone context, and date filters.

A Note's subject date describes when its content applies. It is separate from when the Note was created or a revision was saved.

Set the subject date

  1. Create or edit the Note.
  2. Open Note options using the three-dot button.
  3. Under Subject date, set Date and time.
  4. Review Timezone, using a recognized timezone name such as America/Chicago.
  5. Close the options menu and select Create Note or Save new revision.
  6. Reopen the Note and check the saved subject date.

A new Note starts with the current time and your device timezone. Changing these fields becomes part of the next saved revision; it does not change the Note's creation time.

Understand the current editor's timezone behavior

The date-and-time input uses your device's local time. The separate Timezone field records timezone context; changing that field alone does not reinterpret the entered clock time.

For an event in another timezone, enter the corresponding time in your device's local timezone and verify the saved result. Do not assume entering another timezone name converts the date picker.

List and detail timestamps also display in the viewer's device timezone. Two people in different timezones can therefore see different local clock times for the same saved instant.

Find Notes by subject date

In Notes view and filters > Advanced filters, use Subject from and Through. These include the start and end days in your device's local calendar, including daylight-saving transitions.

For a single day, enter the same date in both fields. The ending date must not precede the starting date. The filters use subject time, not the original creation or most recent modification time.

Notes are ordered primarily by subject date, newest first. Editing the body does not necessarily move a Note above records with later subject dates. See browsing and filters.

If saving reports an invalid timezone or date, correct the entered value and retry. If a Note appears on an unexpected day, check your device timezone, the saved subject time, and the current date filters before changing it.
