Recover locally saved Note drafts

Review device backups, download a draft, restore selected files when available, and explicitly save recovered content.

Saved drafts holds unsaved editor versions on this device. It is separate from Note revision history and does not mean the Note was saved to CareMap.

Review a local draft

  1. Open the same Note's editor. For an unsaved new Note, open New Note in the same workspace using the same account and browser or app on this device.
  2. Select Note options > Saved drafts.
  3. Select a dated version and read its preview. Heed any message that the saved content or location changed.
  4. Select Download draft to keep a file copy if needed.
  5. Select Review draft to load it into the editor.
  6. Compare the recovered content with the current saved Note and make changes.
  7. Select Save reviewed draft to save it, or Use saved version to return to the current saved content.

Reviewing does not save to the server. Existing unsaved work is retained as a separate draft before recovery replaces the editor's content. Saving a reviewed draft still requires current access and can encounter a revision conflict.

Know what can be recovered

Each editor session keeps its own local record. Drafts are scoped to the account and Note, or the destination workspace for a new Note. They are not a shared cloud draft collection and do not automatically appear on another device.

A successful Note draft backup includes authored content, metadata, selected file bytes, and information needed to resume pending resources. Recovery rechecks the current Note, destination, About choices, and permissions. Sharing choices for an existing Note use its current saved access settings.

Some resource sessions can expire or become unavailable. A downloaded backup preserves its recorded content but does not grant access to missing server resources. The Saved drafts dialog has no file-import control.

Handle backup problems

Your draft could not be backed up on this device means local storage or file preparation failed. Server saving can still continue. Keep the editor open, use Retry saving drafts, or download the available copy.

An incomplete file backup may contain text and filenames without all bytes. If the draft cannot be previewed or restored, download it to preserve what is available; do not assume automatic restoration will succeed. Clearing site data or losing device storage can remove local backups.

Use Discard saved draft only for a selected old draft you no longer need. The current editor's draft cannot be discarded through that button. Closing a changed editor offers Keep editing or Discard changes; discarding intentionally removes that current draft.

If access is lost, protected editor content and saved drafts can become unavailable. Restore authorized access before attempting to recover or save.
