Record and upload Guide speech audio

Attach reusable or uploaded narration, record with a microphone, and recover a failed recording upload.

A block's Speech > Audio section provides a recording used by Speak and eligible automatic narration. It is separate from an Audio Media block's player. You need Guide editing access, a connection for upload, and available workspace storage.

Upload or reuse a recording

  1. Edit the block and open Speech.
  2. Under Audio, select Upload audio or Upload replacement. Alternatively, choose Choose from library and select eligible audio.
  3. Wait for upload completion and review Asset status.
  4. When ready, listen using the displayed audio controls.
  5. Select Save block, then test Speak block and Speak page.

Uploads accept AAC, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, and WebM audio, up to 50 MB (50,000,000 bytes). Microphone capture is limited to five minutes; uploaded files are limited by size.

The reusable picker has search, pagination, usage, archive, and deletion controls described in Reusable Guide media. Confirmed archive/delete actions take effect immediately, independently of Save block.

Record with a microphone

  1. Under Record with microphone, select Start recording.
  2. Allow microphone access when the browser or app requests it.
  3. Speak while the recording timer runs.
  4. Select Stop and attach.
  5. Wait for upload, then Save block to keep the selected recording.

Stopping automatically uploads and attaches the clip to the block draft. There is no required review approval before that upload. Capture stops automatically at five minutes. The resulting recording must also fit the 50 MB limit.

Use Cancel recording while recording to discard that capture. Do not close or reload the editor expecting an unfinished local recording to be restored.

Recover an upload

If automatic upload fails, the local clip can remain available with review controls. Listen to it, restore the connection or storage allowance, then select Retry upload.

Use Discard and retry to discard that local clip and record another. A failed capture or upload does not replace the previous saved recording.

Recording, microphone permission requests, uploads, and an unresolved captured clip can keep Save block unavailable. Finish the operation or discard the clip before continuing. An upload may finish before audio processing is ready.

Replace or remove the override

Upload or select another recording to replace the draft's choice. Remove override clears the audio selection; select Save block afterward. It does not delete a shared recording or its other uses.

Maintain useful spoken text too. A ready recording takes priority over generated speech, so changing text, a Voice Profile, or device speech rate does not change the recorded words or voice.

Test page narration separately: a page-level spoken override normally replaces block-by-block narration. Personalized or offline playback may restrict text fallback when author audio cannot play.

Fix microphone problems

  • Access denied: allow microphone access in browser/app settings and retry.
  • No microphone: connect or enable an input device.
  • Microphone busy: close other recording apps and retry.
  • Capture unavailable: upload a supported audio file or choose reusable audio.
  • Empty or interrupted recording: check the selected input and record again.
