Custom blocks

Attach a saved custom component to a Guide block, preview its source, and save the block selection.

A Custom block places a custom component inside an ordinary Guide page. Its saved component defines its content and interactions. Use a Field block for the standard answer-method controls.

You need edit access to the Guide. Creating or changing component source also requires the owning workspace's Custom Components grant. Playback requires administrative approval of the exact component version; source preview uses temporary data and does not grant that approval.

Attach a component

  1. Open the Guide in the editor and select a page.
  2. Add a Custom block, or edit an existing one.
  3. In its content settings, select a saved block component version.
  4. If the component requests answer inputs, connect each input to the intended answer method in this Guide. Leave an input disconnected when it should not receive an answer.
  5. Select Save block, then preview the Guide.

The version list shows components for this Guide that have the block kind. A component built for a whole page or Guide cannot be used as a block. Selecting a version changes the editor draft; finish with Save block to persist the selection and answer connections.

Import or change source

Import a component project JSON file, or load the selected version's source into the source editor. Imported files must be no larger than 3 MiB. Use Preview source to try the current source before saving a new version.

Saving a component version stores that source and selects it in the block draft. You still need to save the block. Canceling the block editor does not delete a component version that was already saved.

Source preview is separate from a player's saved session. After saving, test the complete Guide, including answer inputs and navigation, on the devices your audience uses. If a client reports that custom components are unavailable, use a supported client to preview or play the Guide.

If import or saving fails, read the displayed error and correct the project or component kind before trying again. Keep your source until saving succeeds. For an unconfirmed block save, follow save recovery.
