Sign in on another device with a QR code

Use a one-time code from a signed-in device to add a session on another device.

QR sign-in lets a device already signed in authorize another device to use the same account. It adds a session; it does not sign out the first device.

Generate and scan a code

  1. On your signed-in web or desktop device, open Settings and select the top-bar action Sign in on another device.
  2. Keep the dialog open while its code and countdown appear.
  3. On the other device's sign-in screen, select Scan Code. Its accessible label is Sign in with QR code.
  4. Allow camera access and scan the displayed CareMap code.
  5. Check that the expected account opens. You can close the code dialog on the first device and review both sessions in Settings > Account > Sessions.

The packaged mobile app can scan codes, but does not offer the code-generating Settings action. A browser scanner needs a secure HTTPS connection, camera support, and permission to use the camera. If scanning is unavailable, use another supported sign-in method.

Expiration and replacement

Each code expires after 60 seconds and can be redeemed once. Select Regenerate code to replace a displayed code, or Generate a new code when no usable code remains. Creating a replacement makes the previous code unusable.

Keep the generating device signed in and the dialog open until scanning finishes. A code also stops working if its originating session expires or is revoked. Closing the dialog requests cancellation of its unused code; open a fresh code instead of relying on an old screenshot.

Treat the code as a sign-in credential. Display it only for a device you intend to authorize, and do not send screenshots to someone else.

If it fails

  • Invalid or no longer available: generate and scan a fresh code. The old one may have expired, been used, or been replaced. Confirm that the first device is still signed in.
  • Camera unavailable or blocked: allow camera access, use the secure CareMap site in a supported browser, or use the mobile app's scanner.
  • Invalid CareMap sign-in link: scan the code from the sign-in dialog, not an unrelated QR code.
  • Too many attempts: wait as directed before generating or redeeming another code.

If you signed in the wrong device, revoke its entry in Account sessions.
