Date and time fields

A Date & time field collects a date, time of day, combined local date and time, or date range. Pickers vary by device.

Configure the input

You need edit access to an active Form in an authoring-enabled workspace.

1. Select the builder section, then Add field or content > Fields > Date & time.
2. Enter a Label and optional Help text.
3. Under Input, choose Date, Time, Date and time, or Date range.
4. Optionally set Earliest and Latest.
5. Review Required. New fields start required in Date mode.
6. If grading is enabled, configure a correct answer for the selected mode.
7. Select Done, wait for saving, and test Preview.

Changing Input clears both boundary values. It does not automatically clear a previous answer key; update that key before saving. Closing a changed dialog offers save, discard, or keep-editing choices; see item saving.

Understand boundaries and ranges

Earliest and Latest are inclusive, and Earliest cannot be later than Latest. For Date range, both From and To must fall within those boundaries, and From cannot be after To.

For Time, precision matters: 17:00:00 can fail against Latest 17:00. Use matching precision when setting limits or answering.

Date and time boundaries apply to the entered local calendar date and clock time. They are not converted into a single worldwide deadline. Describe the intended time zone in Help text when it matters.

Date and Time collect standalone values. Date and time also captures the device's time-zone context. It has no separate time-zone selector.

Complete or clear an answer

A required field needs a valid complete answer. A required range needs both endpoints.

An optional field can be left entirely blank. Once either range endpoint is entered, both are required: finish the range or clear both dates. A partial optional range blocks progress rather than being silently omitted.

Partially typed or invalid date/time values also need correction or complete clearing. An impossible calendar date or a local time skipped by a daylight saving change can be rejected. Check the device time-zone setting if a combined date/time answer remains invalid.

Grade date and time answers

With Quiz mode enabled, choose Automatically graded and enter a Correct answer. A range needs Correct start date and Correct end date. Both key and answer must satisfy the boundaries.

Matching is exact. Combined Date and time grading also compares the captured time-zone context, so an equivalent instant entered in another time zone can be marked incorrect. Use ungraded collection when an exact cross-device time-zone match is not appropriate. See answer keys.

Fix common problems

• Boundaries disappeared: Choose Input first, then enter the new limits.
• Optional range will not continue: Complete both dates or clear both.
• The field will not save after changing modes: Update the retained correct answer or cancel and reopen the unchanged field before retrying.
• An in-range answer is rejected: Check completeness, valid dates, range order, and local time-zone behavior.
