Date and time fields

Use a Date and time field to collect supported dates, times, or ranges.

Use a Date & time field when a Form needs a calendar date, a clock time, a combined date and time, or a date range.

Choose the input

Each field collects one kind of temporal answer:

  • Date collects one calendar date.
  • Time collects one time of day.
  • Date and time collects a local date and time together.
  • Date range collects both a From and To date.

The picker appearance can vary across browsers and devices, but the selected input, boundaries, and required rules stay the same.

Add and configure the field

You need edit access to the Form.

  1. Open the Form from Library and select the section that needs the field.
  2. Select Add field or content, then choose Date & time under Fields.
  3. Enter a clear Label and optional Help text.
  4. Under Input, choose Date, Time, Date and time, or Date range.
  5. Optionally set an Earliest or Latest accepted value.
  6. Keep Required on when the person must provide a complete answer.
  7. Select Done, then use Preview to check the field.

New Date & time fields start in Date mode and are required. Selecting Cancel or closing the editor discards changes made since it was opened; Done applies the draft and saves it to the Form.

Set useful boundaries

Use Earliest and Latest to limit the values that can be submitted. For example, a Date field can prevent dates before a program start date, while a Time field can limit an appointment to operating hours.

The earliest value cannot be later than the latest value. For a Date range, both From and To must fall within the boundaries, and From cannot be after To. Changing Input clears the existing boundary values so that dates are not accidentally reused as times or combined date-and-time values.

While filling the Form, a required Date range needs both endpoints before the person can continue or submit. An incomplete optional range is not submitted as an answer.

Grading and Records

When a quiz mode is enabled in Form settings, the field can be Ungraded or Automatically graded. Automatic grading compares the submitted value with the configured correct answer after CareMap validates both. A Date range needs both a Correct start date and Correct end date.

When Person Record targeting is available, the field can connect to a temporal Record Type whose mode matches the field. For example, a Date field requires a Date Record Type rather than a Time or Date range target.

Fix common problems

  • A value cannot be selected: Check whether it falls before Earliest or after Latest.
  • A Date range is incomplete or invalid: Enter both dates and make sure From is not after To.
  • Boundaries disappeared: Changing Input intentionally clears them. Choose the new mode first, then set its boundaries.
  • The field cannot be scored: Enable a quiz mode, choose Automatically graded, and enter the complete correct value.
  • No compatible Record target appears: Choose a temporal Record Type with the same mode as the field, or leave the Record target unset.
