Recover unsaved Form drafts

Review device recovery copies, download unsaved Form work, and explicitly choose whether to replace the saved Form.

Saved drafts retains unsaved Form work on the current device. These recovery copies are separate from the saved Library Form and submitted responses. They do not replace regular saving.

You must still be able to open the active Form for editing. A retained draft does not restore permissions, an archived Form, or missing uploaded resources.

Review a retained draft

  1. Open the Form builder on the device where you worked.
  2. Select Saved drafts and choose a row by update time and version.
  3. Read the text preview and any warning that the saved Form or its location changed.
  4. Select Review draft.
  5. Inspect and edit the recovered Form while Reviewing recovered draft is shown.
  6. Choose Save reviewed draft to replace the saved Form, or Use saved version to return to the current server version.
  7. Wait for saving to finish and check for errors.

Reviewing pauses automatic saving. The shared Form stays unchanged until you explicitly save the reviewed draft. Your previous unsaved work remains as a separate recovery copy.

The reviewed content replaces the current Form definition; it is not merged. Check sections, questions, choices, grading, backgrounds, and image references. A newer competing edit can still cause a conflict.

What is captured

Recovery includes unsaved builder changes and changed content in an unfinished item dialog. It does not include unapplied Form settings or Section settings. Finish those settings with Done before relying on recovery.

The Saved drafts panel can be opened from an item dialog to inspect or download a copy. Finish or discard the item dialog before reviewing another draft or discarding a saved copy. Wait for saves and image operations to finish.

Successful saving removes the acknowledged recovery copy. Copies from other editor sessions may remain.

Download or discard a copy

Select a row and choose Download draft to keep a JSON recovery file. Its content contains more than the short text preview.

This panel has no import action for that file. The download is not a portable .form package or complete media backup. Use Form export for a portable saved Form.

Discard saved draft removes only that recovery copy. It does not delete the Library Form. The current active draft cannot be discarded this way. If the copy changed, refresh the panel and review the latest row before retrying.

Recover safely after a problem

Drafts do not follow you to another device, browser profile, or account. Clearing app or site data can remove them.

If backup fails, keep the editor open, download the copy, and choose Retry saving drafts. Server saving may still work; this button is different from Retry save for the Form.

Unsupported drafts may remain downloadable. Missing media and unfinished transfers are not restored as file bytes; replace unavailable images before saving the recovered Form.
