Image lesson items

An Image item places a picture inside a Course lesson or Reference chapter. It appears with its caption and uses the authored Alt text for assistive technology.

You need editing access to the project's Library folder and workspace authoring and storage available for uploads.

Add an image

1. Open the project for editing from Library and select its lesson or chapter.
2. Under Add content, select Image.
3. In Image file, choose a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP file up to 50 MB.
4. Enter useful Alt text. Leave it empty only if the image is decorative.
5. Add an optional Caption for visible context or attribution.
6. Wait for processing to finish, drag the item's grip to the intended position, and wait for the builder to show Saved.
7. Use Preview to check the image and caption.

Alt text accepts up to 1,000 characters; a caption accepts up to 5,000. A description should explain the information the learner needs, rather than repeat the filename.

A section can contain multiple images. To place a picture among paragraphs instead, use an inline image in Text.

Understand upload and save states

Uploading means the file is being transferred. A temporary picture can appear during transfer. Processing means CareMap is preparing it. Ready means processing completed; still inspect the result in Preview.

The builder's Saved status is separate from image processing. Wait for both before leaving. An image transfer that has not attached its result is not guaranteed to survive closing the editor.

Failed means preparation failed. Read the displayed reason and choose a replacement. Other content can still be edited while media prepares.

Replace or clear an image

Choose another Image file to replace the current selection. Clear image detaches the image from this item; it does not delete the whole item.

Image items use uploaded files. There is no external-image-URL field. If you no longer need the item, use its remove control. An empty media item prevents publication until you attach a source or remove it.

What learners see

Learn displays the picture and caption; assistive technology receives its Alt text. Viewing an image does not record a score or itself complete a lesson.

If Media is unavailable appears with Retry media, retry after checking the connection. If the resource remains unavailable, ask the author to check the media and published version.

Fix authoring problems

For a rejected file, check its supported format and 50 MB limit. Confirm workspace access and storage if uploads still fail.

For an image stuck in Processing, check its refreshed status; replace it if it fails. If the project cannot save, inspect the media's status and follow Course saving recovery.
