Check and repair folder permissions
Use Permission readback to inspect inherited folder access and repair inconsistencies.
Permission readback checks whether inherited folder access matches the existing direct grants. It is useful when descendants appear to have inconsistent permissions after sharing changes.
Open the readback
- Open the folder in Library.
- With writable Owner access, open More Library actions > Share Folder.
- Review the members and the Permission readback panel below them.
- Wait for checking to finish, or select Refresh to request another check.
The panel shows counts for folders, Guides, files, direct grants, inherited grants, and repair items. It previews up to four mismatches, with a count for additional items. Examples include missing or extra inherited grants and inherited roles that differ from the expected role.
Repair inconsistent inheritance
If the completed check reports Needs repair, select Repair. The button is unavailable while checking or repairing, or when there is no repairable result. The action runs immediately; there is no separate save step.
CareMap recalculates inherited permissions from existing direct grants and refreshes the displayed result. Review the members and status again afterward. A successful repair can make previously missing inherited access appear or remove access that should no longer be inherited.
Passing means the returned check found no repairable inheritance mismatch. It does not decide whether the original sharing choices are appropriate, add a desired contact, supply a License, free storage, or guarantee access to separately protected People or Reports information.
If the problem remains
If loading or repair reports an error, do not treat the status badge alone as proof of a completed check. Use Refresh after the temporary problem clears and confirm that results are present.
For an unwanted but correctly inherited permission, edit the original direct grant at its parent. Removing a lower direct role on a child will not cancel a stronger inherited role. Independent Guardian or organization authority must be reviewed through those relationship controls.
If Share Folder is missing, inspect Folder Details and ask the folder Owner to review access. The standard sharing dialog requires writable Owner access; being organization Manager Staff does not itself make you a folder Owner. See Folder permission levels.
