Permission summary
Compare common CareMap viewing, editing, sharing, and management permissions.
CareMap permissions control which content you can see and which actions are available. Your access can differ between workspaces, folders, people, Reports, and organization features.
Library folder access
Library folders use three common access levels:
| Access | What it allows |

| Owner | View and change folder content, share the folder, add or remove members, and change member access. |
| Read/write | View, create, edit, upload, move, and remove content when the folder is writable. It does not allow you to manage folder members. |
| Read only | View and open available content. Editing, uploading, moving, deleting, and sharing actions are unavailable. |
An authoring limit or an unavailable workspace can make content read only even when a folder role normally allows changes. CareMap shows the actions that are currently available rather than relying on the role label alone.
Direct, inherited, and invited access
- Direct access is assigned specifically to you on a folder.
- Inherited access comes from a parent folder and also applies to its visible contents. Removing a direct role does not remove access that you still inherit.
- A folder invitation is pending until you accept it. After acceptance, the assigned role controls your access.
Organization roles, contact permissions, and access to a specific Report or person are separate from Library folder roles. For example, an organization role can make organization features available without making you the Owner of every Library folder.
Check or change access
- Open the relevant workspace and Library folder.
- Check the access label shown for the folder or item.
- If you are the folder Owner, choose Share Folder to add a contact or change a member's access.
- Review whether the displayed access is direct or inherited before removing or reducing it.
- If you need more access, ask the folder Owner or the manager responsible for that area.
CareMap prevents removing the last direct Owner of a folder. Actions may also be unavailable when content is archived, your membership is suspended, or another feature-specific permission is required. These permission meanings are consistent on web, desktop, and mobile.
