Automatic Note titles
Understand fallback and AI-generated titles, added revisions, destination credits, and manual overrides.
When you create a Note with a blank title, CareMap first supplies a title from the text, or Untitled Note when no suitable text exists. It can then generate a short AI title in the background.
Choose your title behavior
- Open New Note.
- Enter your own Title for specific wording, or leave it blank.
- Write the Note and select Create Note.
- If Generating title appears, let processing finish or reopen the Note later.
- Review the resulting title and History.
- To change it yourself, select Edit, enter a title, and Save new revision.
Automatic generation applies to an initial user-created Note with a fallback title. It is not a general regenerate button, and saving later edits does not start a fresh automatic title request. Agent-created Notes follow their own creation flow.
What generation changes
Generation uses the beginning of the Note's plain body text, up to 8,000 characters. It does not read every attachment to choose a title. Generated titles are limited to eight words and 80 characters.
A successful title adds a new revision with Generated Note title in its change summary. The body, subject date, and attachments are carried forward. This explains why a newly created Note can soon show another revision without a second manual edit.
If you save a newer revision or manual title first, the older generation does not overwrite that newer version. Always review the title for accuracy; you can replace it with your own.
Credits and unavailable generation
Generation uses the destination workspace's AI credits: the personal workspace's account or the owning organization. It requires enough available credits for the request and an available generation service.
If generation is skipped or fails, the saved Note and its fallback title remain. Enter a manual title instead of repeatedly creating copies. There is no dedicated title retry control in Notes.
A request that already used the AI service can incur usage even if its result is later superseded or unusable. Editing the title is not a guaranteed refund of an already-started request.
Title generation is separate from preparing the Note for Agent search. A visible title does not prove search processing is complete.
