Tap choice answers

Let someone choose from flat or nested answer options in a Guide Field.

Use a Tap choice answer method when a player should select from options you provide in a Guide Field. Choices can be flat or nested. Flat choices can also allow multiple selections or an Other response. You need edit access.

Add the answer method

  1. Open the Guide and select the Field block that asks the question.
  2. Open Answer methods, select Add method, and choose Tap choice.
  3. Give the method a clear label.
  4. Under Choices, select Choice to add a root option, or select an existing option to open Edit choices.

Manage the choice tree

Edit choices shows the reorderable tree and the selected option's properties. In the tree, you can:

  • add a root choice or a child choice;
  • move an option to an allowed position with its complete subtree;
  • duplicate an option and its children; or
  • delete an option after confirming that its children will also be removed.

CareMap blocks additions or moves that exceed the supported nesting depth. Select Save to apply the flyout draft to the block editor, or Cancel to discard it.

Give each option a meaningful Label. You can also set a stored Value, enter an Icon, choose or upload an Image, and select an intent-based Effect. Labels must be unique within their level; stored Values must be unique throughout the tree.

Only a final choice without children can request an Effect. The Effect is Positive, Negative, Neutral, or None; the player's settings determine the actual visual treatment. See Visual Effects.

Build a nested choice path

A choice with children becomes a group. CareMap saves the partial path while a player navigates, but only a final choice completes the answer. The confirmed answer and Report show the full path, such as Meal / Breakfast / Oatmeal.

Nested choices are single-select, so adding sub-choices disables multiple selection. Other remains available only at the root, and the visible path lets players move back through groups.

Set choice behavior and routing

Under Choice behavior, choose whether a flat list allows multiple selections, uses large answer tiles, or accepts Other text. Customize the Other label and placeholder as needed. Advanced settings can set selection limits and helper or error text.

A final single-select choice can continue normally, go to a page, start a sequence, or end the Guide. Groups never route, and per-choice routing is unavailable with multiple selection. After submit is the method-wide fallback.

Select Save in Edit choices, review the method's advanced settings, then select Save block and preview the Guide.

Choose an answer in a Guide

  1. Select Tap choice if the Field offers more than one answer method.
  2. A flat single choice saves automatically and collapses to the confirmed answer. Change answer clears it and reopens every option.
  3. With multiple selection, select or clear every option that applies. Confirmed selections stay highlighted, while unselected options remain visible and dimmed. Each change saves automatically.
  4. For a nested choice, open groups until you reach a final option. Use the visible path to move back. Change answer clears the path and returns to the root.
  5. When Other is available, enter a non-empty response. It saves after a short pause and can accompany selected options in multiple-select mode.

There is no separate Save answer button. Wait for confirmation before leaving the page. If a save fails, your choices remain available while you retry.

Large tiles keep labels in a separate row below their image or icon. Columns respond to available space instead of a fixed desktop or mobile count.

Reports

Reports can show saved labels, a nested answer's full path, Other text, and choice visuals. Preview answers do not create a Report.

Fix common problems

  • Authoring warning: Add a choice and make every Label non-empty and unique.
  • Route does not run: Use a final choice, turn off multiple selection, and confirm that the destination exists.
  • Answer does not save: Satisfy any selection limit, then check the connection and select Retry save.
  • Answer is absent from the Report: Confirm it saved and Include in reports is on.
