Agent

Check a calculation with the Agent

Ask the Agent to calculate an explicit expression and verify the inputs, units, and result.

The Agent can evaluate a mathematical expression without changing CareMap records. A numerical result is only as useful as the numbers supplied.

Request a calculation

  1. State the numbers, their units, and what you want calculated.
  2. Ask the Agent to use its calculation tool and show the expression.
  3. Review Calculating expression… / Calculated expression activity.
  4. Expand the activity to check Input and Output when needed.
  5. Check that the expression represents your question before using the answer.

For example: “Calculate 20 percent of 120 using 120 × 20 ÷ 100. Show the expression and result.”

When the numbers come from a Report or other record, ask the Agent to read that exact source first. A calculator cannot establish missing source facts.

Supported expressions

The tool supports addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, remainders, powers, and parentheses. It also supports common functions such as square root, absolute value, rounding, minimum, maximum, logarithms, and trigonometry.

Use explicit parentheses, especially around negative values and powers. Trigonometric functions use radians. The percent symbol means remainder in the expression tool; express percentages as multiplication and division by 100.

It does not execute arbitrary code or resolve named variables. Units, currency, dates, and conversion assumptions must be explained separately.

If it cannot calculate

The expression must fit within 500 characters and produce a finite number. Division by zero, unsupported names, invalid function inputs, or an overly complex expression can fail.

Simplify the expression or split the work into smaller calculations, retaining the original units and required precision. Review rounding before using a result in another task.
