Type details answers

Let someone enter a written answer in a Guide Field.

Use a Type details answer method when a player should enter a written response in a Guide Field. Choose a single line for short answers or multiple lines for notes and explanations.

You need edit access to the Guide to configure this method. When included in reports, the saved text appears with the Field answer.

Add and configure a Type details answer

  1. Open the Guide in the editor and select the Field block that should ask the question.
  2. Open Answer methods, select Add method, and choose Type details.
  3. Give the method a clear label.
  4. Enter a Placeholder that shows the kind of response to provide.
  5. Set Answer length to Single line for a short response or Multiline for a longer response.
  6. In Advanced settings, optionally set minimum or maximum character lengths, helper and error text, report settings, and an action to run after the answer saves.
  7. Review the Field block's required setting, save the block, and preview the Guide.

CareMap warns when the minimum character length is greater than the maximum. Correct the limits before the Guide is used.

Enter or update an answer

  1. Select Type details if the Field offers more than one answer method.
  2. Enter the response. CareMap removes extra space at the beginning and end when it saves.
  3. Pause for one second or move out of the answer box. The answer saves automatically; there is no separate Save answer button.
  4. Wait for the confirmed answer before leaving the page, especially on a slow connection.

To replace an answer, edit the text and let it save again. To remove the saved answer, clear the answer box and move out of it.

Validation, required Fields, and Reports

CareMap checks any authored minimum or maximum character length before saving. The player must correct the response when the configured validation message appears. Helper text can explain the expected response before they type.

A required Field needs a successfully saved answer from at least one enabled answer method before the player can continue or finish the Guide. An optional Field can be skipped.

When Type details is included in reports, people with Report access can see the saved text. The authored Report label and help text can replace the default method wording. Preview answers do not create a Report.

Fix common problems

  • The method has a length warning: Make sure the minimum is not greater than the maximum.
  • The answer does not save: Satisfy the displayed length rule. If saving still fails, check the connection and select Retry save.
  • The answer uses the wrong layout: Change Answer length to Single line or Multiline in the method settings.
  • The saved answer disappeared: Clearing the box removes the saved answer. Enter the response again and wait for it to finish saving.
  • The answer is missing from the Report: Confirm that it finished saving and that Include in reports is enabled for the method.
