Import media into a Guide project

Import local originals, attach the resulting asset IDs, and retry or resume incomplete uploads.

A project media import uploads an image, audio, or video original for use in the Guide. Importing it does not automatically add a block or replace an existing media reference.

Use an eligible open desktop project and its generated SDK. Normal storage, quota, upload validation, and processing rules still apply.

Import and attach an original

  1. Select Folder and copy the original into assets/local, creating that directory if needed.
  2. For audio or video, first create and accept a compatible destination block.
  3. Use the generated SDK's media import command with the project-relative file path and media kind.
  4. Wait for the import result and processing status.
  5. Put the returned asset ID in the appropriate Guide source reference and save.
  6. Confirm both source acceptance and media playback in CareMap.

Example commands from the generated tool:

node tools/caremap.mjs import assets/local/photo.png image
node tools/caremap.mjs import assets/local/clip.mp4 video block:YOUR_BLOCK_ID

Replace the video block placeholder with the real accepted block ID. An image can be imported for the Guide without a block. A Media block's content uses data.assetId and the matching data.mediaType; other image locations have their own documented references.

Read progress and limits

Open Local Guide Project details from the status icon. Imports can be queued, reading, uploading, processing, waiting, ready, or failed. The generated asset manifest and SDK status also list the jobs.

Each original must contain 1–50,000,000 bytes. Its filename extension must match a supported image, audio, or video type. One upload runs at a time, with at most 100 retained import results in an open desktop session.

Source editing can continue during upload. Changes that depend on an unfinished upload can wait; successful source synchronization alone does not prove the media has finished processing.

Retry or recover

For a failed or waiting job, read the error and use Retry media import. Temporary network waits retry automatically. Keep the original bytes unchanged for a retry; changing them requires a new import.

Closing the editor stops active requests and preserves unfinished or unattached import metadata. Reopening does not automatically restart those imports. Open Previous session recovery, inspect the saved entry, and choose Resume this media import.

Resuming retains the prior reservation and asset identity. A still-needed original must remain available at its recorded path. Do not start a duplicate import merely because the result is uncertain.

Local originals survive project cleanup. After reaching the 100-result limit, resolve or preserve unfinished work and reopen the Guide for a new desktop session. See project recovery.
